About Nathan
Sen. Nathan Schlicher represents the 26th District, which includes areas of the Kitsap peninsula from Bremerton, where he was born, south to Gig Harbor, where he now lives with his family.
A doctor, Nathan works at the Emergency Department at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, serving as a clinician in the department and Associate Director. He also serves nationally as the associate director of the Patient Safety Organization for TeamHealth.
In this, his first session representing his friends and neighbors in the Legislature, Nathan’s top priorities are job creation, supporting a strong education system, and improving health care for Washingtonians. Particular areas of focus are small business growth, supporting veterans, prioritizing funding for K-12 education, and effectively implementing health care reform for Washington. Working to rebuild our failing mental health system is close to his heart given the challenges he sees in working in an urban emergency department.
Nathan comes from a family of medical professionals. His father retired as a hospital administrator, his mother was a life-long nurse, and he met his wife, Jessica, on their first day of classes at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Today Jessica is a family physician working at the Harrison Medical Center Urgent Cares in Belfair and Port Orchard. They are proud parents of two young children and are expecting a third.
Prior to earning his medical degree, Nathan earned a law degree from the University of Washington, and as an undergraduate studied political science and biology at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. His diverse background also includes experience as a lay preacher in multiple Methodist Churches, a national lecturer on multiple topics, and a published author of books and articles on the importance of political advocacy by everyone.
He has served in numerous other leadership capacities and been honored for that service, Including most notably:
-Guardian of Emergency Medicine by the Washington Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians
-40 under 40 Award Recipient, South Sound Business Journal
-Leadership in Excellence Award, American Medical Association
-911 Network Advocate of the Year, American College of Emergency Physicians
