3rd Stryker Brigade Silver Star
recipients to be honored at the State Capitol
OLYMPIA ─ The Washington State Senate will honor
the 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division Friday, Feb.
1 in Olympia.
Recipients of the Silver Star, the third-highest combat
award, will be in attendance along with Brigade Commander
Col. David Funk.
The
combat team spent fifteen months in some of the most
dangerous parts of Iraq, capturing enemy fighters and
clearing dozens of bombs so humanitarian relief operations
could get underway. Tragically, 48 soldiers from the
division were killed, and 700 were wounded.
Sen. Rosa Franklin, D-Tacoma, and other members of
the Senate sponsored a resolution honoring the soldiers for
their bravery.
“This is our way of thanking these men and women for
showing such courage in the face of unimaginable adversity.
They are to be commended for their bravery,” Franklin said.
