Shin earns perfect score for votes on
children’s and families legislation
OLYMPIA – For his unwavering support of
legislation to help Washington’s children and families, Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, was awarded five stars, or a
“perfect” ranking, from the Children’s Alliance.
“This is a great honor from a distinguished
organization,” Shin said. “I have the greatest respect for
the outstanding work done by the Alliance on behalf of
Washington’s families. The votes I have taken on these
issues come from my heart.”
The chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, Shin
has sponsored a number of measures to expand financial aid
for low-income students and offer scholarships to those
planning to pursue degrees in math and science.
The scorecard is intended to inform advocates for
children and the public about the voting record of state
legislators on issues affecting children and families. It is
based on votes taken on 13 key bills, including health
coverage of all children (Senate
Bill 5093); family leave (SB
5659); and
SB 5828 (Early Learning Advisory Council).
The Children’s Alliance, a statewide advocacy
organization, champions public policies that deliver the
essentials children need to thrive — confidence, stability,
health and safety.
