21st District constituents can now
receive electronic newsletters, updates
OLYMPIA – Although his legislative newsletters and
stationery are printed on recycled paper, Sen. Paull
Shin, D-Edmonds, wants to “go green” even more. To
reduce household waste, Shin is offering his constituents an
e-newsletter and periodic legislative updates.
“In addition to saving paper and reducing costs,
electronic updates provide a faster constituent response to
district and state issues. As chair of the Senate Higher
Education Committee, I’m always emphasizing the importance
of technology and the need for our students to stay
technologically savvy. I should probably follow my own
advice and practice what I preach,” Shin joked.
Because not everyone has access to a computer, Shin will
continue sending a paper newsletter explaining his
legislative priorities and session accomplishments. Those
signing up for the e-service would also receive periodic
legislative updates.
“I’m excited about starting this new service,” Shin said.
“Most organizations already use this route to distribute
information and are very successful. I think constituents
respond to this format more positively because they choose
to receive this. And the information is timelier.”
Constituents can opt in or out of the service at any time
and would not be spammed with campaign material or
fund-raising requests. Legislative ethics policies prohibit
the use of legislative resources for campaign-related
communications.
