March 21, 2007 6th District constituents
can stay informed through e-newsletter
OLYMPIA — Sen. Chris Marr, D-Spokane,
encourages constituents who want to track what he and the
Legislature are doing to sign up on his e-newsletter
distribution list.
“Senators have traditionally sent out paper newsletters
through the mail, and we’ll do that to some extent because
there are people who don’t have access to computers,” Marr
said. “But we can conserve paper and save postage and
printing costs by doing this electronically, so the more we
can do that, the better.”
Marr will mail out a paper newsletter in May to brief
constituents on the accomplishments made in the legislative
session, but people can receive additional updates during
session and the legislative interim via his periodic
e-newsletters.
The e-newsletters allow Marr to update constituents more
frequently, as budget restraints limit senators to no more
than two paper newsletter mailings per year. “The
e-newsletters cost nothing to send out,” Marr said. “We not
only can keep constituents better informed, we can save
taxpayer dollars in the process.”
Those who sign up for an e-newsletter receive only news
of legislative activity — not campaign materials or
fund-raising pitches, Marr said. The Legislature’s strict
ethics protocols prohibit the use of legislative resources
for campaign-related communications.
“This is a public service, not a solicitation,” he said.
“And if someone signs up and later decides they don’t want
to continue receiving the e-newsletters, he or she can be
taken off the list.”
